i saw the mayor of atlanta and the minority leader of the Ga house doing the hustle in mile high stadium -- and that was just a NOMINATION.

Again, we will have to wait to see what Obama does. It is one thing to be a Senator from Illinois, another totally different to be the President who has to play a multidimensional chess game with competing political interests, pressures, etc. In that game many times Democratic politicians throw gays under the bus and rationalize it in this or that way. (I know we are a very small minority and where do you go: Sarah Palin?) Or then they put you on wait. Have you heard that Obama plans to deal with DADT in 2010? Sounds like two good years in which he has to do nothing, doesn't it?

And then there is the Clinton experience. I wasn't in the States during the Clinton years but I saw a clip of him in 1992, during the Dem National Convention. Oh, man, my heart almost stopped because I saw him delivering this with authentic passion:

So, I am now an Obama skeptic when it comes to gay rights. When he does something good, I will praise him, I will be more enthusiastic about him, I will donate to him. If not, I will have to treat him the way I treat your regular Dem pol. As a reluctant, somehow sympathetic, mostly lip supporter of gay people.

Thanks for accepting my apology. Hopefully this administration will stand up for equality in it's actions. We'll see. In the meantime we can work on changing minds one at a time if need be.

BTW, I'm pretty far-left socially and, I'll admit, I was a little taken aback by Aretha wearing that fur 16 years ago. However, she is Aretha so who am I to criticize.
