It's a very quiet, very subdued, very staid film that lives in extremely (sometimes painfully so) long takes and reactions.

It's not only masterfully made it, sadly, could be autobiography for dozens (if not hundreds) of idols of my childhood.

Big thumbs up all around from my group, most of whom have no previous knowledge (or professed interest) in professional wrestling.

It was by far one of the standouts of my Toronto Film Festival this year.

Re: Speaking of Ric Flair

There's a nice story about Rourke and 'The Wrestler' in LA Weekly:

http://www.laweekly.com/2008-09-25/film-tv/year-of-the-ram/

Re: Speaking of Ric Flair

I can't wait for it. Aronofsky's a beast, Rourke seems to have been born to play this role even more so than "Marv" in Sin City, And as a kid who wrote Hulk Hogan a get well card after seeing Earthquake sit on his chest, I am absolutely psysed to see this jont.

Re: Speaking of Ric Flair

I saw it at the Toronto Film Fest. It was good. Rourke can act. I liked JCVD too if you can catch it. Van Damme can act. Whodathunkit? Sadly, the most entertaining part of another movie I saw, Miracle at St. Anna's, was sitting two rows behind Danny Glover and seeing Alicia Keys swept in by security. She's finer in person - which is amazing to me.
