THOUSANDS of high paying technical jobs lost as the industry in Michigan is limping at best, likely dying with respect to what it once was. Pre current-Governor there was a Michigan Bio-Tech Corridor initiatve to link up Michigan foundational resources of academic and private sector players to form a powerhouse of research and production of next generation products and opportunites.

Now, nothing by job loss and a LONG standing Michigan industry a small fraction of what it once was.

Re: Portrait of a Recession

For what it's worth. If anyone is interested in the midwest and how they are dealing with the issues of globalisation and unemployment , I would like to recomend a book called " Caught in the Midle" by Richard C. Longworth.I found it very readable and very interesting

Re: Portrait of a Recession

It truly is sad in this country how whole communities are simply discarded when they are no longer useful to the economy.

It makes my blood boil every time I read an article by Friedman or Krugman singing the praises of the globalized, world-is-flat, information economy while they sit in their Manhattan office farting into their Aeron office chairs.

The bankers sold us down the river. They fucked up the economy and ruined lives so they could have a little more gold. Then they screwed it up so bad they needed to take the working man's tax dollars to fix it. Globalization is great for the rich because it gives them access to cheaper workers.

Re: Portrait of a Recession

MR Gautham Nagesh

Thank you for writing this interesting article.I am sorry that your hometown is doing so badly.

While I found your article interesting ,I wish you could have offered some more answers to the problems of your hometown. The Maine tax credit looked interesting ,but i wish you could have offered other solutions.

For instance , how do you think that Michigan should attract businesses and what businesses do you think that they should try to attract.

As I said, overall I think that you wrote a great article.

I just wish that there were more articles on the solutions rather than just the problems.
