There--I've humiliated myself for the day.

Re: Open Thread At Noon

Yes, I think this is a case where Obama is going to have to bite the bullet and go for uniform prosecutions of torturers. Either that, or we free the Abu Ghraib evildoers. You can't have selectively "guilty" torturers while "innocent" torturers go free without a trial. That would be unethical, to put it mildly, and create a hideous legal anomaly.

Re: Open Thread At Noon

Yeah, I've been bothered by that argument as well. The injustice in that case has nothing to do with whether or not Graner et al deserve to be in jail, because they do--the injustice is that they're the only ones to be in jail over this mess.

Re: Open Thread At Noon

How long before Favre melts down and leaves Minnesota vowing vengeance against all things Viking? At this rate, Brett will play for another 30 years and vow vengeance against each NFL team in turn!

Re: Open Thread At Noon

Brett Favre to the Vikings, it looks like.

Favre was about on par (overall) with Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels last year, but with some upside. I guess it will help the vertical aspect of Minnesota's offense to have a strong-armed quarterback.

Re: Open Thread At Noon

I think the most repellent moment in recent days has been the attempt to declare the Abu Ghraib torturers "innocent" because everyone else was doing it, and anyway we had orders, thank you, sir! I do believe that when prosecutions come, they will do so in part because the Abu Ghraib critters set the precedent.

Re: Open Thread At Noon

You've essentially hit on the most frustrating part of this issues coverage: why is waterboarding the poster child for torture? Don't get me wrong, it is torture, but its pretty far down on the list of atrocities committed under Bush/Cheney interrogation. The ICRC report indicated that one prisoner had his genitals repeatedly slashed with razors. And by repeatedly I don't just mean multiple times in a session; there were several sessions of this. Why aren't we focusing on this incident and others? Why even open up the debate? This is explicit, 100%, no doubt, torture

Re: Open Thread At Noon

Have you read the new report that many were tortured to death?

That ups the ante doesn't it?
