He got some pretty good shots and explained what it was like:

http://noahdevereaux.blogspot.com/2007/04/ice-ice-baby.html

Not my idea of a good time, but if Ice can keep it up, more power to him.

Re: Hammer And Vanilla Ice Together Again

@ black ink: I don't know about Vanilla Ice's live entertaining capability but I remember there's a clip on Youtube with Hammer on Arsenio in full gold regalia and he was great. I would rather watch him than all these pop tarts out there today if I had to choose...and I'm under 25 and I don't listen to secular music. And "Ice, Ice Baby" is a good video demonstrating if nothing else, Ice could dance really well.

Re: Hammer And Vanilla Ice Together Again

Fighting Words, I'm right here with you.

Yeah, it's best not to front on Hammer or Vanilla Ice. I saw them at a concert in, like, 90 or 91 in Houston. If I remember correctly, En Vogue was the opening act.

And let me tell you, Hammer and Vanilla Ice earned every bit of their money that night. Never let it be said that they couldn't entertain.

Hell, I'd pay to see them now. Especially if En Vogue, including Dawn Robinson, swung through town with them.

Re: Hammer And Vanilla Ice Together Again

As a Utahn I resent the implication that we are more than twenty years behind the rest of the U.S. WE ARE 30 years behind in a lot of areas. The hip hop scene is not great here but we get alot of good hardcore and just last night I saw this band,http://cdbaby.com/cd/dublounge... drummer is originally from SLC.

Not for Nothin but cut us some slack... We're surrounded by white people. At least its not Idaho. Just sayin'

Re: Hammer And Vanilla Ice Together Again

How can you not want to dance to such hits as "Let's Get It Started," and "U Can't Touch This?"

Well the reason you want to dance to "U Can't Touch This" is that the backing track is little more than "Superfreak," not because of anything that Hammer added to the mix. Hammer was, is and always will be a hack, musically speaking. I can respect that he did right by his friends and the people from his neighborhood, and that excess generosity in supporting his giant entourage was one of the major factors in his financial decline, but I'm afraid I've got no respect at all for the music he created.

Re: Hammer And Vanilla Ice Together Again

"But there are more complex, philosophical whys. Why do MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice still exist? Having provided the soundtrack for my bat mitzvah and the basis for ironic Halloween costumes, has not their purpose been served? Why, after all these years, have the winds and rains not eroded them away?"

'bout says it all.....

On the other hand Jim Carrey doing "White Ice Baby" still makes me laugh my ass off......

Re: Hammer And Vanilla Ice Together Again

Without Vanilla Ice white culture would never have reached its ultimate pinnacle

Re: Hammer And Vanilla Ice Together Again

Here's the Turn This Mutha Out video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q2TA2zPtac

"Hey hammer, you ain't hittin' it in New York! What you gonna do about that???"

Turn This Mutha Out is still pretty hype, he ripped this shit and the video is kewl, so I can still give myself a pass because this shit came before Hammer sold 10 million records and became sorta lame.

Re: Hammer And Vanilla Ice Together Again

Okay, with a bag on my head, I will admit I saw the first version of this...MC Hammer with Vanilla Ice opening up for him back in 1991 or so... Had never heard of Vanilla Ice before that show, and got the Hammer tickets because we loved Turn This Mutha Out. Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool back then. Now, I give myself the Gas Face and wear a bag on my head. Anon out.

Re: Hammer And Vanilla Ice Together Again

MC Hammer is back, baby. He's got overseas fans that love his tweets...

Re: Hammer And Vanilla Ice Together Again

Not sure if this is relevent, but I am just tired of people dissing MC Hammer (I know nobody here is really criticizing him [yet], but just in case someone does). Someone has to defend MC Hammer. And being a Bay Area resident, I guess that I'll do it (full disclosure, MC Hammer's mansion that he never got to live in is located in my hometown of Fremont, CA...not near where I live, of course ;op).

Ok, say what you will about him. He couldn't rap. He was bubblegum. He was a sellout. He's a joke. He's poor. Whatever. But I'll defend him on three counts:

1. Authenticity. Unlike other rappers, who talked about being from the streets, MC Hammer actually was a poor kid from the projects in Oakland, CA. He was a local boy who made good.

2. Marketability. Although he was not the first hip hop artist to have a hit, MC Hammer was the first hip-hop artist who truly became a national phenomenon. He was the first rapper to make hip-hop accessable for a large portion of the country (image Sony's "My First Hip Hop Artist"). He paved the way for the success of hip hop artists in the late 1990's and this decade. And he deserves some credit for that.

3. He wasn't as bad as people say he is. How can you not want to dance to such hits as "Let's Get It Started," and "U Can't Touch This?"

Of course, there is no possible defense of "Hammerman," the cartoon.

Re: Hammer And Vanilla Ice Together Again

My wife said she'd go on the condition that Color Me Badd was on the bill

Re: Hammer And Vanilla Ice Together Again

all that's missing is "....with special guest MC Michael Steele".

Re: Hammer And Vanilla Ice Together Again

"who paid to see this?"

and then i saw it took place in utah, and i thought, "that's about right"

utah: more than 20 years behind the rest of us

Re: Hammer And Vanilla Ice Together Again

Pop goes the weasel 'cuz the weasel goes Pop!
